Bel Ka Sharbat, Maredu Drink, How to make Bael syrup – Summer drinks

In addition to the Nannari syrup, I also made a batch of Bel syrup, as it is a healthy thirst quencher with lots of nutrients. The Ball tree is considered sacred in Hinduism, where its leaves and fruits are used to worship Lord Shiva. The Bael fruit (botanical name ~ Aegle marmelos), also known as the stone apple, Bael Pathar, Vilvam (Tamil), Bilva (Hindi) and Maredu pandu (Telugu) is packed with nutrients, helps in healing acidity, stomach ulcers, stomach disorders and helps in refreshing and detoxifying the body. In fact, every part of the Bael tree is beneficial, as the roots and leaves are used to treat skin infections and stomach aches.

Bel Ka Sharbat

Most people prepare sharbat with ripe fruit. Sharbat can also be prepared with bell syrup, which is made from dried bell fruits. The preparation of Bel syrup is similar to that of Nannari syrup. It’s a little long, but simple. Basically, you carefully wash the dried bael aka maredu and soak it in water overnight. The next morning the dried linen is boiled with the soaking water until it is reduced by half. The mixture obtained is filtered and boiled with sugar until it takes on a slightly thick brown colour. To prepare the Bel Ka Sharbat, put 3 tablespoons of the prepared Bel syrup in a large glass, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and pour in cold water to the brim. Add ice cubes and serve.

If you want to prepare the Bel ka Sharbat with ripe fruit, just open the bubbles and remove the pulp with a spoon. Soak the flesh in a cup of water for a few minutes and crush it with your hands. Remove and discard the seeds. Puree the wax until smooth. Add sugar or brick to taste, toasted cumin seeds, a pinch of black salt and cold water to the puree, mix well. Pour into tall glasses, add ice cubes and serve.

Maredu ~ Bollard of dried fruit.

Maredu aka dried bell is generally available in all local Ayurvedic health shops. In Vizag, Mareda (in dried form) is available from the Pachipulusu Venkata Sannaya and Sons and the Sri Sambasiva Ayurvedic Centre in the Kurupam market. You can even buy ready-made syrup in Ayurvedic medicine shops. In Vizag, the Maredu drink is prepared by juice vendors in their carts, especially in the Kurupam market area, near UMK High School and Seethammadhara.
