  3. Take one wonton wrapper and insert the skin’s bottom through the slit.
  4. Pull the piece you put through the skin gently downward on the other side.
  5. Voila! You’ve got a twist!

What Sort of Oil Is Best?

I like using canola or corn oil for deep frying; I don’t only use it for this wonton strip recipe; I use it for whatever cooking I need to perform. Given that a shallow pan may be used to deep fry these crispy wonton strips and that it won’t need much oil to do so, you can use use avocado oil for the purpose.

While peanut oil also works and has a very high smoke point, making it the perfect oil for deep frying, it is also quite costly, and if you deep fry often and replace the oil frequently, the cost may mount up quickly!

Preparation

  2. A handful at a time, add the wonton wrappers. Put just enough wrappers in to fill the pot in a single layer; do not add all of them at once. They must be prepared in batches.
  3. The wonton skins will rise to the top and begin to puff out right away. If they do, turn them every few seconds or push them down periodically with a spoon. Very huge bubbles with trapped oil may sometimes develop on the skins; if this occurs, try poking the bubble to release the oil; then, take close care to those skins when you remove them from the pot and completely drain them.
  4. In 1-2 minutes, the wonton strips will be finished. When the skins are a golden brown color, you will know they are finished. Don’t take them from the oil until it is completely dark brown since they will continue to cook after you do.
  5. Scoop them up and place them on the cooling rack to chill and solidify using a spider sieve or a slotted spoon.
  6. Enjoy them with a sweet-and-sour sauce on the side!

Sauces for dipping

Serving these tasty, crispy wonton strips with a variety of sauces and dips is one of the greatest ways to eat them!

Personally, I like the flavor of wonton chips straight up. However, I always serve them with the following sauces everytime I cook them.

A perennial favorite is the traditional sweet and sour sauce from China. My sweet and sour sauce is made in the Cantonese style, which is less sweet than the American version and has an excellent mix of sweet and acidic flavors.

I also like whipping up fast sauces that just take five minutes to prepare, such as my spicy Sriracha Mayo Sauce, creamy Honey Sesame Dip, very tasty, creamy, and simple Peanut Sauce, or straightforward Honey Mustard Sauce (which I mix plain yellow mustard with honey).

How to Keep Them Safe

Fried wonton strips may be kept at room temperature for up to a week in an airtight bag or container (do not refrigerate them). To prevent steam or moisture from forming while they are being kept, just make sure they are absolutely cold before storing them.

Is it possible to prepare wonton chips in advance for a party?

Yup! You very certainly can. If you keep them at room temperature and in a Ziploc bag or other airtight container, you may keep them for up to a week (do not refrigerate them). You may reheat them for 1-2 minutes in a 350°F oven if you choose to do so before serving.
