Ingredients for Mango Lassi

Mango: You can use any kind of pulpy mango. Avoid using mangoes of fibrous varieties. Yoghurt or quark: You can use store-bought or homemade yogurt or cottage cheese. I prefer homemade cottage cheese. Sugar: White sugar or unrefined sugar, depending on what you want to use. In the case of a sugar substitute for diabetics, stevia can be used. Saffron: To a girl’s taste. That’s not necessary. Cardamom powder: The taste of cardamom and mango is also excellent.

Recipe notes

After much trial and error, I have found a ratio of cottage cheese and yogurt that complement each other. Some recipes taste like mango puree instead of lassi, others taste like sweet yogurt and you always wonder where the mango part went :D. It is not too heavy, has a light taste and is therefore very gentle on the stomach.

Which mango to use

You can use any kind of fleshy mango. Alfonso mango is a popular choice for making mango lassi. Alphonso has a milder taste and a pronounced aroma. However, I prefer to use the readily available Safeda mango, which has a distinct mango flavor. Any kind of pulpy mango can be used to make lassi. The colour of the lassis depends on the mango variety used. Dark orange varieties like Alfonso and Sinduri give a bright yellow oil, while lighter colored mangoes give a lighter color. You can add or omit the ice cubes as you like. I like it really cold, so I add ice. You can use cardamom or saffron, a mixture of the two, or omit both flavors. The mangoes themselves are delicious.

Sweetener for lassi

The most common choice is sugar. It can even be made without added sugar if you wish. If you avoid sugar and prefer alternatives, you can use stevia. Natural sugars like coconut sugar, honey or maple syrup are also options to sweeten your lady garden.

Yoghurt or quark?

You can use store-bought yogurt to make lassi. Homemade unsweetened cottage cheese is my favorite for making mango lassi. You can use them all, depending on your personal preference. If you want to make a low-fat lassi, you can use low-fat milk yogurt or low-fat yogurt.

Mango Lassi Flavour

You can use rose water or kevra water to flavor the lassi. Or use cardamom and saffron as I mentioned in the ingredients above.

Can you make a vegan mango lassie?

You can definitely make vegan mango lassi with dairy-free yogurt. You can use store-bought vegan yogurt or make homemade vegan yogurt. Personally, I prefer coconut milk yogurt for the vegan version. The taste of mango and yogurt is absolutely delicious. You can also use almond yogurt or cashew yogurt.

Mango Lassi with Mango Pulp

If you can’t find fresh mangoes, canned mango pulp is also good. If you are using mango pulp, make sure that if it is packed in sugar syrup, you are not using the extra sugar listed in the recipe. If the mango pulp contains no added sugar, you can use this recipe unchanged. word-image-9294 Here you will learn how to prepare a mango lassi. Lassis is a refreshing Indian drink made from yogurt.
