McDonald’s Hash brown | Copycat Recipe

These days, everything seems to be artificial. From our food to our homes to our jobs to our environments; artificial things seem to be everywhere. Well, not everything. McDonalds is one of the few places that don’t seem to be affected by the “artificial” phenomenon. Their food is still very real, since they are still serving up real food made with real ingredients. It doesn’t use artificial flavors or artificial colors, and it doesn’t make you feel like a robot after eating it either. Well, maybe that’s not so much a scientific observation as it is a shameless plug for McDonalds, but it’s a legitimate one nonetheless.

McDonald’s is probably the most iconic fast food restaurant in the world, and for good reason. Their menu is full of tasty and healthy options. While some people think they are unhealthy, others swear they are the absolute best food on Earth.

Crispy hash browns with a mouth-melting softness on the interior. Isn’t it true that we all like fried potatoes for breakfast? Here’s how to create the BEST hash browns every time they’re properly browned and extra crispy.

Hash browns aren’t only for breakfast or supper; we consume potatoes at every meal. We also use them in wraps, burritos, and burgers on occasion. Soggy, mushy hash browns aren’t a good choice for any dinner. I tried many recipes in search of a method to create crispy hash browns.

To be honest, hash browns are the only food I like at McDonald’s. This imitation McDonald’s hash brown recipe is ideal for making those extra crisp potato packets. Try these if you like breakfast potatoes.

Fried potatoes are a favorite of my and my family! Not just fried potatoes, but potatoes in any form are a favorite of ours. If you like potatoes, though, you already know that fried potato snacks are the best. One of the most wonderful breakfasts ever is good old-fashioned restaurant-style hash browns with a fried egg, ketchup, and buttered toast.

Hash Browns Ingredients

It’s simple to make your own hash browns. This recipe just requires a few simple ingredients.

Potatoes: You may use either old potatoes or any starchy potato type. Waxy potatoes should not be used.

Corn starch is used to bind the ingredients and make them crisp.

To season them with salt.

Oil: Any vegetable oil will suffice. I prefer extra virgin olive oil, which has a higher smoking point and is thus better for frying. I try to stay away from processed oils.

Crispy Hash Browns: A Step-by-Step Guide

Getting the Potato Mixture Ready

  • The potatoes should be peeled and rinsed.
  • Cut them up into extremely little cubes.
  • In a pan, heat one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
  • Place the chopped potatoes in a colander set over a large basin. To remove the starch, pour water over the potatoes and rinse.
  • In a medium-sized skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Stir in the chopped potatoes and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until cooked. Make sure they don’t overcook or get mushy.
  • Transfer potatoes to a large mixing basin and stir in cornstarch.
  • Mix thoroughly.

Changing the Shape of Hash Browns

  • After wrapping the heated potato mixture with cling film, place it on a board and flatten it. Spread it evenly into a rectangle shape using a roller pin.
  • Cut this rectangle into 6 rectangular pieces using a knife.
  • To form the rectangles, gently round the corners.

Extra Crispy Frying Perfection

  • In a heavy-bottomed skillet, heat the oil until it reaches a thickness of 14th of an inch.
  • Heat the oil.
  • Pour the oil over the formed patties. Reduce the heat to a low setting.
  • Cook for a few minutes on one side. Lift the edges with a spatula to check whether they’ve begun to become golden. Gently turn the paper over to the opposite side.
  • Cook until golden brown and crisp on the opposite side. Drain the liquid onto a wire rack. Serve right away.

Recipe for Hash Browns in the Style of McDonald’s

It’s really simple and quick to make crispy hash browns at home, just like at McDonald’s. In just a few simple steps, you can create restaurant-style super crispy hash browns that are soft on the inside at home.

What’s the key to the crispiest hash browns you’ve ever had? After grinding and before frying, squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible. Here’s how to always get them properly browned and extra crispy.

  • Use potatoes that have been finely chopped. They will get mushy on the inside as a result of this.
  • The most essential thing to do to make them extremely crispy is to squeeze as much moisture out of the potatoes as possible.
  • This process of par cooking potatoes before shaping and frying till al dente eliminates excess moisture from the potatoes before cooking.
  • Heat the oil first before cooking the hash browns. Fill the pan with a minimum of 14 inch of oil and do not overcrowd it. If using a tiny pan, do it one at a time.
  • Form a thin layer of hash browns for crispy hash browns with just the perfect amount of soft fluffy potato within.
  • Another way to create excellent hash browns is to just turn them when one side is properly browned. This will not only keep them extremely crispy, but it will also result in beautiful brown flour.

Notes on How to Make the Best Hashbrowns

  • Hash browns at McDonald’s are prepared with four ingredients: potatoes, cornflour, oil, and salt. However, if you want additional flavor, a pinch of onion powder and garlic powder may be added as a personal choice. This adds a layer of flavor. Make them plain if you’re like me.
  • When frying hash browns, heat the oil until it shimmers, then lower the heat to medium and cook the hash browns.
  • Hash browns are not one of the world’s healthiest foods. However, using extra virgin olive oil with a high smoke point of 375F to 405F is one way to make them healthier. These are much superior to the refined oil-fried hash browns served in restaurants.
  • One thing to keep in mind while frying is to avoid overusing or overheating the oil. Heat destabilizes oils, rendering them unsuitable for human consumption. I’ve included some of my favorite deep-frying techniques.
  • Finally, don’t put them on a platter right away. I like to move them around on a wire rack. Drain and put hash browns on the wire rack after placing the wire rack on a paper towel. Both surfaces will remain sharp as a result of this.

What are the Best Potatoes for Hash Browns?

It’s preferable to use potatoes that have a lower moisture level. For hash browns, use starchy potatoes like Russet. Avoid waxy potato types or young potatoes since they have a high moisture content and do not produce a crispy surface.

What Should You Serve With Hash Browns?

The greatest way to eat hash browns is with eggs and toast. Crispy Fried Eggs are my favorite, but they’re also good with omelettes, frittatas, spicy scrambled eggs, and Soft Fluffy scrambled eggs. Soft Parsi Fashion Scrambled eggs are a dish that may be prepared in a variety of ways You may make breakfast sandwiches or wraps with them.
