Pandan Drink – Thai Refresher And Cooling Beverage

This pandan drink is a simple Thai recipe based on pandan leaves, boiled water and sugar. This is not the Filipino buko pandan, which is a jelly made from young coconuts and is a dessert, not a drink.

The pandan leaf is for Asian cuisine and the vanilla for Western cuisine. These free growing leaves from the Pandanus group are used for various purposes.

In Thailand, pandanus leaves are often used to add a pleasant aroma to rice dishes and steamed foods, especially fish. You’ll see that I use it often in my videos.

Pandan is cut, crushed or mixed and filtered to produce an accurate natural food colour.

We chop and crush the leaves to make a natural dark green food dye, we cut up the leaves and crush them in a bowl in the kitchen as a natural deodorant (which the cockroaches don’t like very much either), we use them as kitchen paper.

Among other things, we produce this thirst-quenching drink, which is served across the country as a welcome drink for visitors.

Pandan leaves and lemongrass are famous in Thailand and go so well together.

Pandanus leaves should be used fresh and can be found in good Asian stores or for sale online. If you live in a sunny climate, the best thing to do is to buy a packet of seeds and grow them at home.

They don’t smell much before they’re cut, but once they’re sliced, they give off their most delicious fresh scent. And you save a lot of money, because pandan products are equally expensive in the West, while vanilla is terribly expensive here in Thailand.

It was interesting to read in Michelin that Thai boys or men braid pandan leaves into knots to make beautiful bouquets to woo a chosen Thai girl.

This is no longer a common practice as far as we know, so don’t bother working on your web skills! Money works much more efficiently

How to make a Thai pandan drink – step by step

It’s very easy to make! Boil plain water, cut pandanus leaves into finger-thick pieces and cook for 5 minutes.

After cooking, remove the cut leaves with tongs and add the brown sugar; stir well to dissolve the sugar while the pandan tea is still hot. I use brown sugar or palm sugar because the flavor is a little better.

Allow the pandan water to cool to room temperature, then place in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

To serve, simply put a few ice cubes in a glass, pour in the pandan drink and bite down on it to quench your thirst.

  • 20 Pandan-Blätter
  • 8 cups of water
  • ½ cup granulated brown sugar …
  • Ice cream
  • Heat water to boiling.
  • Cut the pandanus leaves into small pieces 50-75 mm long and put them in water.
  • Cook for 5 minutes and drain.
  • Without water, add the sugar and stir until it dissolves.
