After Anant Chaturdashi, according to Hindu calendar, comes pitrupaksha or Shradh. It’s a moment to honor our forefathers and mothers by cooking and giving specially prepared meals.

There are numerous traditions that are observed at this time, and one of them is the prohibition of onion and garlic. As a result, we’ve prepared a list of Indian vegetarian dishes for Pitru Paksha that are free of onion and garlic.

I’ve had a lot of requests for no onion, no garlic dishes for Navratri and other auspicious days when folks cook without onions and garlic. While compiling the recipes, I was shocked to discover that the majority of my favorite dishes do not include onion or garlic.

Here’s a collection of full-flavored, easy-to-make onion garlic-free dishes that taste so delicious you won’t even realize they’re missing!

When will Pitrupaksh/Shradh 2021 be held?

Pitrupaksh 2021, also known as shradh in 2021, runs from September 20 until October 6.

When the pitrupaksh time is finished, Navratri begins the following day. In the year 2021, Navratri will begin on October 7th.

(Please double-check the dates in the desi calendar with your local traditions.)
