Thai Sticky Rice Recipe – Using Instant Pot Pressure Cooker

If you want easy-to-cook sticky rice, you can make it at home with your Instant Pot. With the bamboo steamer, you get closer to the taste you usually use.

For those who don’t want to buy a separate bamboo steamer just to make sticky rice, I will show you how to use your pressure cooker to make sticky rice at home.

You can find the original version of glutinous rice here, but it’s a misleading way to make glutinous rice if you want to save a few hours of soaking.

Glutinous rice is widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine and is absolutely delicious. It is often used in mango glutinous rice as a base for this delicious dessert. It is also often associated with larch wood, lao chop, which has a fragrant and tasty flavor.

If I haven’t convinced you by now that you need to make glutinous rice, I can’t take it anymore.

 

Why use instant pot rice with a sticky surface

Glutinous rice often needs to be soaked overnight to soak the rice grains. But with the Instant Pot, you can shorten the soaking time so you have it for the next meal instead of the next day.

If you use an electric pressure cooker like the Instant Pot, you can cook the sticky rice so that it stays sticky and tacky, as it’s called.

Cooking any kind of rice in a pressure cooker can be tricky. There are many variations that can lead to a decrease in the amount of rice, including the altitude, hardness of the water, and age of the rice.

Sticky rice is known as both Thai sweet rice and sticky rice. Before cooking, the rice grains have a deep, rich white color.

If you’ve ever wondered if you can use your Instant Pot to cook rice, the answer is yes: Yes!

The recipe for cooking sticky rice in a pressure cooker depends on the ratio of water to rice and the cooking time of the sticky rice.

When you cook in a pressure cooker, a bowl inside the cooker is under pressure. In the pressure cooker, a mixture of rice and water is safe. For 1 cup of sticky rice, use 2/3 cup of water. There should be 1 cup of water around the bowl to allow the steam to cook the rice.

For Thai sticky rice, the Instant Pot should be on high pressure for 12 minutes, then on natural pressure release for another 12 minutes.

Can you make real sticky rice with a pressure cooker?

You can use a pressure cooker to make real sticky rice. However, I highly recommend cooking with bamboo steam with this authentic sticky rice recipe.

If you use a pressure cooker, the sticky rice will be slightly softer than if you use a bamboo steamer.

Do you need to soak the sticky rice when using a pressure cooker?

If you are using a pressure cooker to prepare sticky rice, you do not need to soak the rice before cooking it. This will save you a lot of time!

Can I use jasmine rice in the preparation?

No, jasmine rice is not the same as sticky rice. Glutinous rice is used to prepare Thai glutinous rice.

Instructions for Thai sticky rice in pressure cooker

  1. Rinse the sticky rice until the water runs clear.
  2. Place 1 cup sticky rice and 2/3 cup cold water in a stainless steel bowl.
  3. Place a stainless steel bowl on top of the steamer.
  4. Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of the pressure cooker.
  5. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and close the ventilation knob.
  6. Put the pressure cooker on high pressure for 12 minutes.
  7. Give the pressure cooker a natural outlet.
  8. Carefully open the lid, remove the rice and serve!

Summary of rice gluten

While making Thai sticky rice is not my first choice for making this delicious dish, it is an obvious second choice. It may be a little softer than traditional sticky rice, but it’s definitely a great recipe if you’re short on time.

Can sticky rice be cooked in a rice cooker?

Step one: Measure two cups of rice and two and a half cups of water into the rice cooker. Soak rice for 30 minutes to 4 hours; again : The longer you wait, the more authentic the sticky rice will taste. Step two: Add 1/2 teaspoon salt, close the lid and turn on the rice cooker.
